SGA Meeting Minutes 04-01-2013

Cory called the meeting to order at 4:02 PM

Guest Speaker: Deandre Radcliffe, President of Black Student Union and Student Diversity

       “10 Point Plan” addressed to SGA body, ideas and concerns discussed:

1.     Equal opportunity for minorities in organizations such as SGA

2.     Black Greek Life promotion

3.     Sports venue reservation

4.     Student section at games

5.     Retention rate help

6.     Push for 4 year graduation plan

7.     Safety of parties and possible on-campus locations

8.     Spring and Fall classes equally offered

9.     Library hours extended

10.  Campus food and shuttle hours extended

       Other points mentioned included importance of GPA, reflection of campus body as a whole, development of programs to promote these specific goals, funding for extending hours

– Redesign of SGA information pamphlets

– Introduction of the idea of a mandatory exit survey for graduating students

– Spoke with Danny from Parking regarding Shuttle stop signs and times

– Spoke with Bridges out of Poverty student union regarding a training session

– OOHLALA app promotion

– 4 Year Plan was presented and feedback received

– Moving date for SGA tables to next week

– Last Lecture series details, Nikki will further discuss

Caroline gave the chair report for Student Life Committee

Survey Monkey will be sent out for SGA Retreat to find a date that works for majority of body, Stadium Club or Ohio Room depending on date, Carrie Anderson will be speaker

– Need more people to work polls for SGA voting tomorrow and Wednesday

– Penguin Productions Spring Event will be Friday April 26th, committee members can volunteer for constituency log hours

– Mark Thornhill spoke to committee regarding event that will promote fight against childhood obesity in Mahoning County, SGA volunteers needed, contact him for more details

Nicole gave the chair report for Academic Affairs Committee

– Spoke with advisor regarding 4 Year Plan and received negative feedback, plan to still pursue this idea

– Dr. Tessier accepted speaker nomination for Last Lecture Series, official details to be released soon

Alyssa gave the chair report for University Affairs Committee

– Struthers, Mineral Ridge, Howland, East, and Chaney high schools to be visited still, volunteers needed

– Beatitude House donations of household items are being collected

Spoke about possible FAQ sheet and a record of events pamphlet for next year

– Plan to make meeting attendance mandatory for organizations asking for funds
