SGA Meeting Minutes 09-10-2012

Cory called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM 

Guest Speaker: Erin Driscoll, Student Activities Director

–       Introduction to her new position

Cory gave the President’s Report

-Student Success Committee à Concerns about (lack of) involvement

-T-shirts à Designs will be emailed

-Parking: Flyers on cars (illegal) à Call police if observed

-New Email system à Debut delayed

-Constituency Logs à 15 hours required

Justen gave the Vice President’s Report

-Taking students to speak to Deans of their college

-Last Lecture series à Proposals/suggestions?

-Labor Management Council

-Academic Senate meeting

-Tailgating à Successful YO Show

-Explained the approx. $32,000 budget for this school year

A.)   Amendments to Constitution:

–       2/3 majority vote needed to change

–       Passed with a 42-0-0 vote

–       Will be presented on Homecoming ballad

B.)   Changing the perception of YSU, promote body to speak:

–       Rebecca Banks “Say positive things” (Garden, sports teams, avoid negativity)

–       Teresa McKinney “Keep building up YSU Pride” (Excitement from football game)

–       Katelyn Kridler “Reach out to a younger audience” (Promote YSU to high school students)

–       Catie Carney “Get commuters/outsiders more excited about campus involvement”

–       Cary Dabney “Reach out to non-traditional students” (Make up 36% of enrollment)

–       Elyse Gessler “Promoting what is going on is your JOB, be enthusiastic about it!”

–       Jessica Sarich “Promoting Crash Day, great way to show what YSU is all about”

–       Melania Vlad “YSU experience is what you make it, get involved!”

–       Kendal Malsch “As a Peer Mentor, noticed at orientation that organizational fair was not effective and too overwhelming. Need more consistent promotion of student organizations”

–       Celeste Marshall “Students come to class, then leave. Need to show them reasons to stay”

–       Ashley Orr “Free student services here, such as CSP. Many unknown benefits!”

–       Sarah Perrine “New signs, more attention grabbing, better displaying of our university”

–       Alyssa Olmi “Advertisement is a big deal, inform the student body”

C.)   Nicole Pavlichich brought two issues to our attention:

–       RAs in Housing upset by SGA approval of an inappropriate flyer

–       Students upset by shuttle hours, overload, discomfort of walking to residence halls at night
