What fundraising efforts has your organization recently put forth? What is being planned?: Bake sales, Food sales, Bowling nights, Summer car washes, Raising in dues

What community service has your organization participated in recently? What is being planned? Please be specific as to how many participate and if it is done on behalf of the organization.: We have hosted 5 blood drives in six months. We also have participated in a national second harvest food bank drive. This summer we were the leading team in Habitat for Humanity house building project partnered with Burgan Real Estate. We are spear heading a district wide fraternity event in which we are going to bike to seperate colleges.

Description of Event: It is our annual national fraternity meeting. We participate in leadship seminars, meeting with our leaders to discuss and vote on national ammendments. This year one of our brothers is moving into a national position in which one undergrad is chosen to represent all undergrads at the national level. This is event is our main national level convention, and a huge part of how we are to operate on a yearly basis.

How will this event benefit YSU and the student body?: Considering the number of student leaders that Alpha Phi Delta has, this is event is a huge reason we have been given the skills to better serve our community here at YSU. With help given to our organization our many students can better lear to take bigger strides for the groups they are involved in thus, yeilding greater success for the groups we both run and work with.

What fundraising efforts has your organization recently put forth? What is being planned?: There have being Auction sales organized in the past spring semester. There have being sales of African Movies at the past African cultural night programs. We are planning to have African Students Union T-shirt sales during the Cultural Nite in order to raise money to support our selected charity – Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County. We are also planning to organize an African Movie Nite in the spring semester to raise funds.

What community service has your organization participated in recently? What is being planned? Please be specific as to how many participate and if it is done on behalf of the organization.: The African Student Union has always organized dance performances at programs organized by Office of student diversity. Members of the Union participated in the Non-Violence Match in October and the just ended blood donation.?Also, we are working on a date to go out and work for Habitat of Humanity of Mahoning County at a construction site. All members of the association are expected to participate in this volunteer work.

Description of Event: The African Cultural Nite under the theme “Globalization and the Evolution of African Culture” is organized to educate and enlighten the Youngstown community about Africa. While providing entertainment, we educate our audience through the various performances- dance, drama, fashion show and other performances. We also intend to raise at least $600 to support Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County.

How will this event benefit YSU and the student body?: By supporting Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County, we will portray YSU student body as very responsive to the needs of the Youngstown community.?Through the various performances at the African Cultural Nite, we intend to educate the students and the Youngstown community about Africa. We also intend to serve two African dishes during the program. This is also a great opportunity for the students and the Youngstown community to enjoy the various African dishes which are not readily available in Youngstown.

What is being planned?: Fundraising Activities:?T-shirts/hoodies: November 14-January 17 (parents, friends, Kilcawley-2 days)?Pepperoni Rolls: November 14-December 12 (parents, friends, family)?Warm-Ups: November 1-January 17 (HPES faculty and all PE, HE, ExSci majors)?All club members participate.

What community service has your organization participated in recently? What is being planned? Please be specific as to how many participate and if it is done on behalf of the organization.: Community Service:?Toys for Tots 5K/1.5 mile walk/run sponsored by the Vienna Air Force Base (Howland, Nov. 19). All the proceeds are given to the Toys for Tots foundation. The event will also be honoring Veteran’s day and the Marine Corps 236th birthday. The veterans are recognized and given a memento for their honorable service. All club members will do one of the following: participate in the race, purchase a $15 toy to donate, collect at least $15 to donate to Toys for Tots.?The club also does a community service project spring semester. That project is yet to be determined.

Name of Event: 82nd Annual OAHPERD Convention (Ohio Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance?Date of Event: November 30 – December 2, 2011?Location: Greater Columbus Convention Center, Columbus, OH?Expected Participation: 4 members are planning on attending?Total Cost of Event: $50 per person (registration), $120 per night room for 2 nights.

Description of Event: The conference provides a series of sessions that engage professionals and future professionals in up-to-date content and teaching strategies related to health, physical education, recreation, a dance. The following is a sample of the over 100 sessions that are planned:?-Adventure Curriculum for Physical Education?-A National Demonstration Project: The Mobile Health Unit?-Ohio PE Standards Assessment: Assessing Standard 1?-SHAPE Up: Hybrid Games?-Health Projects at Your Fingertips!?The event is three days of continuous sessions that will encourage future teachers to become the best educators we can be. There are also university sponsored social events that we can attend and network with practicing teachers.

How will this event benefit YSU and the student body?: This conference will give us an opportunity to further educate ourselves on our ability to be effective teachers. We will learn about new developments in our area of expertise and this will help us in the long run to become great educators. We will be student representatives of YSU, and will be able to bring back the ideas presented at the conference and share them with all the other club members and health and physical education students who were unable to attend. It is a great professional opportunity for us.

Registration Fees (4) – We have four club members attending the conference. The amount for registration was $50 each. Don’t need as much, but would help $200.00
Transportation Costs – If possible, we would also like to request a sum of money for gas expenses. $50.00

A Bill

Making Appropriations for three organization(s)

Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the Youngstown State University Student Government Association assembled, That the following sums are appropriated, out of any money in the Appropriations Fund not otherwise appropriated, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012, for the activities of student organizations, namely:

Section 1: Alpha Phi Delta is appropriated the sum of $500.00 to help defray the cost of lodging and transportation for their National Conference on February 16-19th, 2012. This event will be held in New Jersey.  Three (3) members are expected to attend.

Section 2: African Students Union is appropriated the sum of $900.00 to defray the cost of the food and drink for their African Cultural Night event which will be held on December 2nd, 2011. It will be held in the Chestnut Room in Kilcawley Center and one hundred and fifty (150) people are expected to attend.

Section 3: Physical Education Majors Club of YSU is appropriated the sum of $340.00 to defray the cost of lodging and registration for their OAHPERD Convention which will be held on November 30th-December 2nd, 2011 in Columbus, OH.  Four (4) members are expected to attend.
